Week 6, Term 4! We have passed the hump and are on the race to the end of the year! My Goodness!
This week we were fortunate enough to have the amazing performer from Corrugated Iron Andi and Zac join us at school. These super talented performers provided our students with a highly entertaining show, followed by super engaging workshops, where students learnt to master an array of circus tricks! They are now off to visit Angurugu, Umbakumba and Milyakburra next week, however you might be lucky enough to catch a sneak peek of their talents as they practice their skills around town over the weekend. This unique and engaging experience was certainly enjoyed by staff and students alike!
This fortnight a group of our Senior and Middle school students have been busy cooking up a storm in the VET Kitchen as they undertake their Certificate II in Kitchen Operations. They have been pumping out everything from breads to salmon salads to udon noodles, huevos, cakes and an array of desserts.
Information went home to families this week in regards to the opportunity for students to engage in Scripture Union lessons. Scripture Union is an Australian organisation who work alongside churches and communities to provide Religious Instruction to schools and similar groups. This is not compulsory, and structured arrangements will be made for students who are, and are not participating in the sessions. A reminder to families, should you not want your child to participate in Scripture Union, please advise the school by return form no later than Monday 21 November.
As the end of the year nears, we are busy celebrating student successes and graduations and preparing our students for 2023. This week we ran our first Transition Orientation session, where the Preschool AM class spent some time in Transition. The Preschool children will continue to be spend time in the Transition classroom each week as part of the orientation to school program.
Our Year 6 class is preparing for their Graduation that will be held on Wednesday 30 November, and Preschool students are set for their Graduation on the Wednesday 14 December. Please highlight these dates on your calendars if you have students in these year groups. On behalf of Alyangula Area School, I would also like to congratulate Blake Booth, who has successfully completed Year 12 as a dual enrolment with Alyangula Area School and Northern Territory School of Distance Education. Blake and his family will be attending a Graduation ceremony in Darwin next week. Blake has also been successful in obtaining a Diesel Mechanic apprenticeship with GCC. Congratulations Blake!
Planning for 2023 is well underway, and in the coming weeks, students will be submitting their class preferences for 2023. Students will be choosing some friends who they work well with and would like to be in the same class with next year. I am in the final stages of finalising staffing and class structure for 2023. I know parents are intrigued about the class structures, and I am hoping to have this information set and ready to share with our school community in or before our next school newsletter.
The next school assembly will be our awards assembly. This assembly is solely dedicated to presenting school awards to celebrate the achievements of students throughout the year. There are 8 awards per class, and two awards per learning hub. As this is a special, formal assembly, it is requested that students are to wear their blue school shirt (no sports shirts) on this day. Parents are encouraged attend, and light refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the assembly.
This week we welcome three new staff members to Alyangula Area School. Ms Nellita Wurramurra and Ms Marissa Bara have joined us as Cultural Liaison Officers and Classroom Tutors; and Ms Kaye has joined us a Classroom Tutor and Literacy Intervention. All three ladies have been welcomed on our Facebook page. If you’re interested in hearing more about them, check out their bio on the school’s Facebook. We are so pleased to have these ladies join us and would like to again welcome them as staff in our school.
Our school value that has been the focus for this fortnight has been Excellence. It has been inspiring to walk through the classes and students displaying excellence, discussing excellence and being excellent!
Have a great weekend everyone, good luck in your hunt for Billfish if you’re heading out for the comp, and kids – be nice to your mum if your dad is away all weekend!

Lest we Forget
4/5H has been doing poems in literacy and incorporates this into Remembrance Day activities. Amelia created this after a term of using poetry devices. We were all very impressed by the work produced and showed courage when she presented it at the last minute at the Remembrance Day assembly.
