Today marks the halfway point of the 2025 school year, and I think we all are left wondering where the last 6 months has gone?!. We finish strong this week with student reports distributed to all families, celebrating the achievements and progress of our students while outlining the next steps in their learning journey. Student Led Conferences are scheduled for Week 3 of Term 3, providing students the chance to share their work with their families in their classrooms.
Our senior years students have continued to impress with their efforts in the VET Kitchen Café, cooking up a storm as they work towards their Certificate I and II in Kitchen Operations. Their professionalism, teamwork and culinary skills have been outstanding, and the $5 meals, snacks, and coffees have been a hit with staff, students, and community members. We’re excited to see the café return for the first two weeks of Term 3.
Throughout the term, students have engaged in a wide range of learning experiences, both in and outside the classroom. It’s been a term of growth, connection and community spirit, and we’re incredibly proud of the efforts shown by all students across the school.
We’re also looking ahead to some exciting developments. The rebuilt 2/3 building is set to be completed over the break, and we look forward to welcoming the cohort into their fresh new learning space at the beginning of Term 3. Term 3 will also see the launch of our new STEM Room, equipped with 3D printers, green screens, aquariums and additional STEM resources — creating a dynamic environment for exploration, design and discovery. Staff can also look forward to the long-awaited opening of our new staffroom — a well-deserved space for rest and recharge during the school day.
Next term promises to be another full and vibrant term, with school photos, Book Week, the Colour Fun Run, and the Arts & Culture Festival all on the horizon — and that’s just to name a few! A reminder that Monday 14th July is a student-free curriculum day, with students returning on Tuesday 15th July.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our staff and students for their incredible efforts throughout the semester. The energy, commitment and care that goes into each day at Alyangula Area School does not go unnoticed, and it’s what makes this a wonderful place to learn and grow.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy three-week holiday break. We look forward to seeing you all in Term 3!

In the Classroom - T/1
In T/1, we had so much fun playing a game called ‘What’s On My Head?’ Each child wore a mystery sentence on their headband, and their friends had to read it out loud to them—without giving away the surprise! Using their Read Write Inc. (RWI) strategies like Fred Talk to sound out words, students worked together to blend the sentence and write it down. They also used their growing bank of Magic 100 Words to help with tricky words. It was a great mix of teamwork, thinking, and lots of laughter—all while building confidence in reading and writing!
Alyangula Area School Council are looking for a parent representative to lead a fundraising subcommittee.
The idea is to have a school presence at markets and other community events throughout the year. In addition to raising funds for the school it also provides a great opportunity to be involved in both the school and local community.
Please contact the school on 08 8987 6366 or email alyangula.admin@education.nt.gov.au regarding further information.
