From The Principal
Week 8 Term 4, and hasn’t it been a ripper!
This week we saw out our final School Council meeting of 2022. A huge thank you to our school council members for their commitment to the school. We will be seeking new members to join our committee in 2023. Nomination forms will be available at the school office and on the school website.
Our 2023 Preschool and Transition teachers hosted information sessions for our 2023 families this week. The information evenings were a great opportunity for our families to gain an understanding about the daily routines, programs and pedagogies that will be delivered in our Early Childhood Hub, and provided them with the knowledge to help support their children through the transition to preschool or school. Our 2023 Preschool families are also reminded that voting for the 2023 Preschool hours will close 9am Monday, so make sure you get your vote in!
On Wednesday we celebrated our 2022 Year 6 Graduation. It was so wonderful to acknowledge this very important achievement and allow the students the opportunity to share the memories of their final year of primary school with their peers, their families and our staff. A special thanks to Ms Boness, for coordinating such a successful event. Our Graduates had a fun filled evening after the formalities, where they ate pizza, played on the inflatable water play castle and topped their evening off with playing spotlight in the classrooms! As I mentioned in my Principal’s address, I would like to personally thank each of you for the great life, leadership and legacy you have provided to the Alyangula Area School community. You are a talented and compassionate group of young people with a bright future ahead, and we wish you all the very best for whatever 2023 brings you!
Today we celebrated the success that our students have achieved throughout the year at our special awards assembly. We honored the sheer hard work and perseverance that our students showed throughout academics and extra curricular activities. A big thank you to all of our invited guests who made themselves available to help present the awards, and to the parents and community for your attendance and support.
This week concert practice has been in full swing! Our first ever whole school performance is on Wednesday 7th December, with curtains down at 5:30pm. Students are requested to be at their classrooms at 4:45pm to prepare their costumes, hair and makeup. If any parents or helpers are available to assist with costume/ hair/makeup prep please contact your child’s teacher. I’m sure they would love to hear from you!
Our Preschool Graduation is scheduled for Wednesday 14th December and will be held in the Multi Purpose Room. A reminder to preschool parents clear your schedules and bring your cameras!
We are excited to announce that we have finalised our staffing structure for 2023. Step Up Day is being held on Tuesday 6 December. Step up day is a chance for students to spend the day in their potential 2023 classes, with their potential 2023 teachers. Step Up Day is also an opportunity for our teachers to learn about their students, to get a feel for class dynamics and to best equip the students for success. Students will begin the day in their 2022 classes for the role and morning circle, before moving to their 2023 classes for the remainder of the day. Please note, that class lists are still in draft form, and changes may be made prior to the beginning of the school year. As per usual, final class lists will be displayed in the office windows in late January.
I would like to take this opportunity to inform our school community that Jake Lonergan was successful in securing a PE teacher role at Zuccoli School in Darwin, and Madi Gadd was successful obtaining the Preschool Teacher position at Angurugu School. Sharron Allwood will be leaving us this week as she embarks on shoulder surgery and recovery, and Tom Elliott is heading back on the road in his caravan for 6 months at the end of the school year. Thanks to all of you who have shown dedication and expertise in your respective fields throughout the year, and I wish you all the best for what lies ahead.
Information will be sent out this week regarding class parties, and a reminder that reports go home on Tuesday 13th December. Formal instruction will cease on Thursday 15th December and the final day of school for 2023 is Friday 16th December.
