Principal's Message

Hello Everyone,

I hope this newsletter finds you all well as we approach the halfway mark of the academic year. As we enter the month of June, I would like to acknowledge the work that took place across the school to celebrate Reconciliation Week last week, a significant event that promotes understanding, respect, and recognition of the histories, cultures, and rights of Indigenous peoples. Throughout the week, our students engaged in various activities, including cultural workshops, guest speakers, and artistic projects, which helped foster a deeper appreciation for Indigenous cultures and histories. I want to express my gratitude to our dedicated staff and enthusiastic students for their active participation in making Reconciliation Week a success.

I would also like to thank our Fundraising Committee, for another successful stall at the GEMCO Reconciliation Market. As we strive to provide the best possible educational experience for our students, and it is important to acknowledge the financial challenges we face. In order to enhance our facilities, resources, and extracurricular programs, we rely on the support and generosity of our school community. Included below is a form that I welcome our school community to complete to advocate how we allocate our funds and prioritise our school and student needs. 

As I head on leave for the remainder of the term, I am thrilled to welcome Mr Bert Beekhuizen back to our school! Mr Bert will be returning in my absence into the Acting Principal capacity for weeks 9 and 10 of Term 2. I am sure you will be just as excited to have him back at Alyangula.
I would also like to take the opportunity to inform our community that we will be farewelling some very special staff from AAS at the end of this term. Ms Temira Wallis and Mrs Georgia Laidlaw will be departing to embark upon their Study Leave, Ms Kyleigh Currie will be finishing up in the office, Ms Dani will be heading off to have a baby, Ms Lee has a term of long service leave, and Ms Katrina has 5 weeks of long service leave!

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for the hard work and commitment demonstrated by each of these staff members. They consistently go above and beyond to provide our students with a supportive and nurturing school environment, and I wish them every happiness on their next chapters or exciting adventures!
I am pleased to inform that we are in the process of recruiting to these positions. I can confirm that Mr Hamish Robb will be back in a full-time teaching capacity to take over Ms Laidlaw’s class – 3/4L will turn into 3/4R.

We are also seeking the following:

• 6 month contract Science and Middle Years
• 6 month contract Administration Officer
• Classroom and Preschool Support Tutors
• Bus Driver
• School Gardener

As we continue through to the end of term, we conclude our school swimming program with our Swimming Carnival. The carnival will gives our students the chance to showcase their skills and sportsmanship. Thanks to Ms Abbey, Mr Molnar and Ms Gaby for providing a comprehensive swimming and water safety program to our students.

Our teachers have been busily preparing end of semester reports for students. This year we have altered our reporting template to provide families with key information that focusses on the skills and knowledge that your child has demonstrated, as well as the next steps in their learning progression. The template also includes suggestions for families to engage in at home to support or enhance their child’s English and Maths progression. Reports will be sent home with students in Week 10.

Swimming Carnival Record Holders 2021-2022

In the classroom - Y2 J

In our class we have been learning about Persuasive texts. We have written persuasives pieces of writing about how our cupcakes are the best in the world.

So we have decided to hold a cupcake stall to show them off.

It is going to be held at 12:50pm next Thursday 15 June. Just outside the Year 3/4 classroom doors.

They will cost $2.00 each.

We are raising money for our class to spend money for our classroom.
