Principal's Message

Dear Families

As this week ends, we are super proud to acknowledge the Alyangula Area School Choir who finally travelled to Darwin to perform in the BEAT Festival. Thanks to the amazing fundraising efforts, and the superb support of local community members and stakeholders, 21 students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of music and performance, by taking part in a state-wide spectacular! All students demonstrated our values of Courage and Excellence during this event. A huge thank you to Ms Bartley for the organisation of this event, the practises and of course the coordination of the many fundraising events throughout the year.

I would also like to congratulate and wish the very best of luck to our team of Athletics champs who have also travelled to Darwin to compete in the Regional Athletics Competition. I have heard of some exceptional results and stories of amazing sportsmanship from our students who are representing our school. A big thanks to Bush Fit Mob for their assistance in chaperoning and supporting our students in Darwin. I look forward to sharing our results at the conclusion of the carnival.

To further add to the excitement of Week 8 the Year 2/3 students had The Movie Night event. This saw students cooking damper, sliding down the slip and slide, making T-Shirts and playing basketball. All students assisted in preparing and cooking their snacks and dinner prior to watching the movie ‘Paper Planes’ at the outdoor cinema. Thank you to all the students, staff and families that supported this event.

I am pleased to inform families that Ms Eilis’ class returned to their classroom after the fire damage of a few weeks ago. The classroom has been made safe by the contractors, and the electrical issue has been resolved. Thank you to the 5/6S class for being so resilient and flexible (even though they absolutely loved having the MPR as their classroom!).

I would also like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Bush Fit Mob for facilitating ‘The Big Launch’ - an afternoon of activities at the Recreation Hall in Angurugu. Ms Sarah and I took a group of students to immerse in all the activities that the Rec Hall has to offer- including soccer, basketball and ball sports, hairdressers, a gaming room with a play station, a fully equipped gym, and a nail salon! We were proud of our students who displayed all our school values – Respect, Excellence, Courage and Safety during this exciting and energetic event. A reminder to families to keep an eye out for events that are being held at the Rec Hall, it is such a valuable facility for our kids and the community.

Next Wednesday we will be holding our Annual Colour Fun Run! The run will begin on the Town Oval, and students will run along the track by the Front Beach and back up the path by the Pool and Squash Courts before making their way to the finish line on the Town Oval. A reminder that students are asked to wear white for this event. We are calling any volunteers who are available to help squirt colour on our participants whilst they run to please make contact with the school – we have ordered double the colour this year to make it double the fun! But we still need more helping hands! This year, funds from the Colour Fun Run are going towards supporting the school with outdoor play equipment, so remember – share link with family and friends for your child to go in the draw to win spot prizes and prizes for the most funds raised.

In week 10 the Alyangula Area School Arts and Culture Festival will be taking place on the evening of Thursday 21 September. Families are asked to supply food from the country that your child’s class is studying, and each class will be presenting a performance from their chosen country. Please put the date in your calendar and keep an eye out on SeeSaw and your child’s bag for more notices coming home early next week with more information.

On behalf of Alyangula Area School, I would like to wish all of the dad’s and special people in our the lives of our students a very special Father’s Day for last weekend. We hope you all got super spoilt with love! And to any of our mum’s and special people heading out on the water in the coming weeks, good luck in the fishing comp!

Help Support our school while having a little pink flamingo fun!! Join the fun and flock a friend, family member or neighbours front yard!

If you have been flocked, you have the opportunity to choose the next house (by paying a suggested donation fee of $30). The recipient is not required to make a donation. The flock will be moved to the next house after 2 days regardless of a donation.

Colour Fun Run

Alyangula Area School is running an online sponsored Colour Run fundraiser to encourage our students to get active and to raise much needed funds towards a range of resources and initiatives including sports equipment and playground activities.

Our Colour Run is a great way to bring our school together to work towards a common goal, the results of which will benefit all our current and future students.

All pupils will be seeking online sponsorship for their participation in our Colour Run. All funds raised will go towards our upgrades. The funds raised by our school community make a huge difference in enhancing the overall school environment and we couldn’t undertake such amazing projects without your support!

How will this fundraiser work? We are using online fundraising company Go Raise It. Collecting sponsorship online makes it super easy for everyone - no more door knocking, your child can collect more donations from further afield (friends and family living overseas, work colleagues etc) and no need to worry about handling all that cash.

How do I sign my child up to fundraise online? Each child can sign up for their very own fundraising web page to send out to collect online sponsorship from anyone, anywhere!

Multiple children in your family? No problem, all children can sit under the same email address. You’ll find a button to set up another page while logged in to the fundraising account you created first.

Do I have to sign up for an online account to fundraise? We would love everyone to have an online account as this allows the club to significantly reduce the administration overhead of collecting and dealing with cash. Go Raise It adhere to strict cyber safe guidelines, and this is built into our fundraising website. If you really do not want an online fundraising page, and still want to participate please check with the club office to see if you can collect cash.
