2023 Term 3 Week 10 Newsletter

Principal's Message

Dear Families, 

As we approach the end of this term, I am delighted to share exciting news and updates from our school.

Our recent Colour Fun Run was such a success! Our students had so much fun running the track and getting colourful! I want to extend a big thanks to Mr Peter Molnar for the organisation and coordination of the event. I would also like to thank our students, families, and dedicated staff members who supported this fantastic event by seeking sponsorship and donations for students. Together, we raised an impressive $3000 which will go directly to purchasing outdoor play resources. Individual prizes and  the class party for students who raised the most money will be announced at our first assembly for term 4 (Friday 20th October). It was incredible to see our students, staff, and families come together in such a fun and colorful way to support our school.  Thank you!

Another successful event this week was our annual Arts and Culture Festival. Students spent the day immersing in activities from cultures across the world including Irish Dancing, Origami, Italian Ball Sport, Ghost Net Weaving, Haggis Hurling, My Cultural Story, a whole-school Arts project and scome cooking! A big thanks to families for contributing a dish from the country for your child's class food stalls the culinary array was impressive!! And of course, the performances. A fabulous effort by staff and students to prepare and present a performance from their country. 

I want to congratulate our outstanding athletes who have represented Alyangula Area School and East Arnhem Regoin in Darwin at the regional Athlerics Competition - Jonovian Bara, Yvette Wurramara, Robert Devlin, Hugo Yol, Cooper Jones, Mathias Bara and Casey O'Hare. We are immensely proud of your achievements and the positive way you have represented our school. Well done. 

As we prepare for the end of the term, we bid farewell to some valued members of our staff who have made significant contributions to our school community. This week will be the last week for Ms Dee Hoogkamer, Ms Amanda Hollingswoth, Ms Sue Christowitz and Ms Sinead Walsh. Their dedication has been invaluable, and they will be dearly missed. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors, and we are grateful for the lasting impact they have had on our school.

Finally,  to our students, parents, and staff for your support and dedication throughout this term. It has been a fantastic journey, and I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead as we head into the break.

Please enjoy a safe and restful school break, and I look forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday 10th October, 2023.

Award Winners

In the leadup to the Arts and Culture Festival, the Year 1 class learnt about some interesting facts on their chosen country of China. For example, did you know the following:

1. Over 5000 years ago, the Chinese were the first people to introduce paper money.
2. We all like to use chopsticks when eating Asian food, but originally, chopsticks were used as a cooking tool.
3. If you use chopsticks correctly, it is said that you are using 50 different muscles. Not a bad workout!
4. The Chinese like to fly kites for recreation, but kites were also used for military purposes.
5. Even though China’s eastern and western borders are 5000km apart, China operates on 1 time zone – Beijing time.

Arts & Culture Performance

The Year 1’s did a fabulous job in learning and presenting a traditional Chinese folk dance at our Arts and Culture Performance night.

Help Support our school while having a little pink flamingo fun!! Join the fun and flock a friend, family member or neighbours front yard!

If you have been flocked, you have the opportunity to choose the next house (by paying a suggested donation fee of $30). The recipient is not required to make a donation. The flock will be moved to the next house after 2 days regardless of a donation.

Colour Fun Run

Thank you to all Alyangula Area School students, staff and families for helping to make the 2023 Colour Fun Run a fantastic event and fundraiser. 

Thanks to you effort, we've rasied approximately $3000 to help with purchasing sports equipment and playground activities. 

Thank you to all students, staff, and parents who participated in the run… and to the families who came out to cheer everyone on… it really was an incredibly fun event!

Stakeholders - Thank you

A huge Thank You to GEMCO for their donation of mulch for our school gardens, our school won't look this awesome with their delivery and the hard work of our school gardener.
