Principal's Message
Hello Familes,
I hope this newsletter finds you well as we reach the end of another eventful week at Alyangula Area School.
Firstly, how awesome was our Athletics Carnival last week?! A big thanks to the hard work and dedication of Mr Molnar and everyone involved in the organising, marshalling, tallying and supporting. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed by all students in both the junior and primary/secondary events. Congratulations to the Scorpions for taking the flag this year! A solid performance with all participants giving it their best effort! Special mention also to our families and community members who helped at the BBQ during our track events. The profit from the sales at the Carnival go directly back into our Physical Education program – so thanks for your support!
Well done also goes to our secondary students who have completed their first blocks of VET Cert I and Cert II INLOC Ecosystem Conservation and Management for the year. It's wonderful to see our students engaging in hands on learning experiences that prepare them for future opportunities.
Our swimming program has kicked off with great success. Students from Preschool through to Year 8 are participating and making progress in their swimming and lifesaving skills. We believe in the importance of water safety and physical activity, and our swimming program is a valuable part of our PE curriculum for this term. Please note: Our swimming Carnival is scheduled when the weather warms up – Friday Week 1 term 4!
As we transition into the dry season, we understand that the central air conditioning systems can make classrooms chilly. Please remember our uniform policy: plain navy blue jumpers are permitted in and outside of the classroom, or non-navy, non-offensive jumpers can be worn in the classroom, but must be removed once outside. Oodies are not permitted at school. Additionally, school shorts must be navy blue and of appropriate length.
Next week, we will bid farewell to some valued members of our staff. Ms. Nina will be returning to Darwin with her family in anticipation of the birth of her second child. We also say goodbye to Mr Hamish Robb and Ms Lauren Hagebols and their family, who will be relocating to Victoria. Their contributions to our school community have been invaluable, and they will be greatly missed. The last day for Ms Nina, Ms Lauren and Mr Hamish will be 17th May 2024.
To ensure continuity in our classrooms, Ms. Amanda will be taking over Ms. Nina's Preschool class for the remainder of the year, and Ms. Sharron will be replacing Ms. Lauren in T/1 until the end of term 2.
We are actively recruiting new staff for Semester 2. If you know of anyone who might be interested in joining our team, please pass on the school’s contact details.
I would like to express my gratitude to everyone for your flexibility and understanding as we continue to navigate the challenges of relocating classes due to the fire damage. Your support is greatly appreciated as we work to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
This Sunday is Mother’s Day! AAS are celebrating again this year by holding our annual Mother's Day Markets tomorrow Saturday, May 11th at the Town Oval from 10:00 AM to 1:00. It's the perfect opportunity for our students to find something special for their mums, grandmas, or other special people in their lives, as well as supporting local businesses!
There will be a variety of stalls offering handmade crafts, delicious treats, and other unique gifts. We encourage everyone to come along and support our talented students and local community vendors.
And as we celebrate Mother's Day this weekend, we want to extend a heartfelt "Happy Mother's Day" to all the amazing mums out there! Your love, patience, and support are truly appreciated. We hope you have a wonderful day!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Have a great weekend everyone.
