Can you believe that we are already at the back end of semester one?! The weather has cooled right down and I hope you take the opportunity to get out on Country.
This week marked the conclusion of our term 2 school swimming program. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr Molnar and Ms Gaby for providing such an important and purposeful water safety program to the students of Alyangula Area School. Learning to swim and understanding water safety are vital life skills, and we are grateful for their dedication in instilling these skills in our students. All students will have an additional week of swimming once the weather warms back up in Week 1 of Term 4. Our Swimming Carnival is also scheduled for Term 4.
Last Friday, our Student Representative Council (SRC) organised a delightful Pyjama and Ice Cream Day, adding a splash of colour and fun to our school day. Next Friday, we'll be celebrating Ride to School Day, promoting road safety awareness. Students are invited to participate and enjoy a delicious pancake and ice cream breakfast as part of the festivities. Let's make safety a priority together!
A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Tamara, an ex-student of Alyangula Area School. Tamara, now residing in NSW and pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher, generously volunteered her time to support the learning of our students in the 3/4 classroom. We are truly grateful for her dedication and support.
A big congratulations to our senior years students who have been diligently working this week with Andy from INLOC, who delivered First Aid and CPR certificates. The First Aid certificates hold merit as a module to support the successful attainment of Cert II in Ecosystem and Conservation Management.
On Tuesday, June 11th, we anticipate the commencement of cleanup efforts for classrooms and spaces affected by the recent fire. While the duration of this project remains uncertain, we are optimistic about the progress it will bring. Stay tuned for updates!
Next week, students will engage in an alternate timetable for an entire day, allowing staff to collaboratively plan for the term ahead. We appreciate your understanding and support as we strive to enhance the learning experience for our students.
Teachers have also been diligently working on student semester reports, which will be printed and sent home with children on Monday, June 17th. We look forward to sharing your child's progress with you.
As always, we appreciate your continued support and involvement in our school community. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Warm regards,
Mel Dougherty Principal

Bebras Challenge
“Earlier this term, Alyangula Area School students were given the opportunity to compete in a worldwide Mathematics computational thinking challenge, called the Bebras Challenge, facilitated in Australia by the Australian Maths Trust. Our students competed with over 2.9 million other students in over 60 countries, using their problem-solving skills to solve 15 problems ranging in difficulty from easy to hard.
Our year 3/4 classes incorporated this challenge into their regular Maths lesson and 16 students from Years 5-9 completed in this challenge on top of their regular Maths studies.
All of our students showed the school values of excellent and courage whilst participating and we are extremely proud of their efforts. Round 2 of the challenge is to be held in Term 4 – it would be great to have even more students involved!”
