Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 4! I hope everyone had a refreshing two-week break and is ready for an exciting final term of the year. A special welcome to our new families joining Alyangula Area School this term—we’re delighted to have you in our school community. We also extend a warm welcome to Ms. Jae and her family, who have recently arrived. Ms. Jae will be working across different classes this term, providing valuable release time for teachers to plan.
Last Friday, we kicked off the term with a very successful Swimming Carnival. A huge thank you to Mr. Molnar for organising the event and to all the staff who supported it. Well done to all participants for their fantastic efforts, and a big congratulations to the Scorpions, our winning team this year!
We also had the chance to review the results from our recent school survey, and I’m pleased to share that the feedback was overwhelmingly valuable. Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the survey. Your insights are vital and help us continue to improve our school for the benefit of all students.
This term started with great energy, including the Year 3/4 excursion, the Tour de Gula. Students embarked on a bike tour around town, visiting key sites to deepen their understanding of this semester’s HASS unit. Highlights included learning about bees, reptiles, and habitats at the Lawton Family home, observing the ecosystem at Golfy Creek, and exploring the markings along the front beach. The excursion wrapped up with a swim and lunch at the Golfy, making it an unforgettable experience for the students!
This week, we finally had the chance to draw the prizes for our Colour Fun Run fundraiser. I’m thrilled to announce that our students collectively raised over $7,000, which has gone toward purchasing a 3D printer and a green screen for our school. Congratulations to Reign Smith for raising the most funds, and a special shout-out to Tilly, who won the exciting opportunity to slime her T/1 teachers! 1/2J was the top fundraising class and will celebrate with a well-deserved class party. Well done to everyone involved! Our next big community fundraiser will be the Halloween Disco on Thursday, 31st October, at the ASEC Hall—stay tuned for more details!
Next week, we are looking forward to welcoming students from Kings School in Sydney, who will be spending time with our Year 6 students during literacy sessions and recess. This is part of the Kings School City Country Partnership Exchange, a wonderful opportunity for students to engage and learn from one another.
Selected students from Years 8 and 9 will also be heading out on an exciting excursion to NPI and the Minesite. This tour will allow students to see firsthand the workings of the mine, including key areas like NPI, Mechanic Workshops, and Mining Operations. These visits are crucial in showcasing the skills and knowledge that will be needed to operate and maintain the island’s future services and facilities.
On a more personal note, I’m pleased to share that Mr. Pilkington is now out of the hospital after his scooter accident over the school holidays. He sustained a serious injury, but we’re relieved to hear he’s on the mend. On behalf of AAS, we send our best wishes to Mark for his recovery.
Finally, a reminder to all families to please complete the Family Intention Form for 2025. This is crucial for our planning of staff and class structures for next year. Please follow the link below:
Here’s to a successful and fun-filled Term 4!
Regards,
