Happy Halloween! It was wonderful to see so many spooky and creative costumes at our Halloween Disco last night. Thank you to everyone who attended and to our Senior Years class for setting up the ASEC hall. The acoustics were a bit tricky, but the atmosphere was wild!
Last Friday, we celebrated World Teachers' Day, and I want to take a moment to recognise and thank all our dedicated staff. Each one of our staff bring unique talents and unwavering commitment to our students every day, and your impact is felt in every classroom and corner of our school. A special congratulations to Ms. Lee, who was shortlisted as a finalist for the Early Childhood Teacher of the Year award for the East Arnhem Region, and to Ms. Malan, who won the Primary Teacher of the Year award for the East Arnhem Region. We are so proud of your achievements and the inspiration you provide to our school community.
Our school canteen has been up and running for the past two weeks, thanks to our motivated students who have stepped up to operate it on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during recess and lunch. It’s been amazing to watch their impressive serving, money handling, and communication skills in action. This initiative has been a fantastic experience for our students to have some voice and agency in our school and has brought new level of responsibility to our breaks.
In other exciting news, our Year 5/6 students have partnered with the Anindilyakwa Rangers to relocate the recycling bin to the ASEC Hall car park. Recycling is a crucial part of protecting our beautiful environment here on Groote Eylandt, and this new bin placement will make it even easier for our students and community to contribute to this important effort.
Looking ahead, we have a special visit from Crocwise on Friday, November 15, when they will run informative incursions for all classes. With recent crocodile sightings around the front beach and boat ramp, this is a timely reminder to stay "Crocwise" and aware of the safe practices that protect us in our unique environment.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
