Time flies! It’s hard to believe we are already at the end of Week 6. There has been plenty happening across the school as always, and some exciting events planned for the next few weeks.
A big thank you to all the families who attended our Meet & Greet sessions last week. It was a fantastic opportunity for parents and carers to connect with teachers, gain insight into classroom routines, and discuss goals for the year ahead. We appreciate your involvement and look forward to working together throughout the year.
This week, our Student Representative Council (SRC) held their first meeting. It was great to see our student leaders come together to discuss initiatives, plan upcoming events, and explore how they can make a positive impact within our school community. Congratulations SRC on such rigorous discussions!
Today, we celebrated FootyColoursDay to mark the start of the NRL and AFL seasons. It was wonderful to see so many students proudly wearing their team colours and showing their support. We also enjoyed a special SRC lunch, which was run by the SRC team. Proceeds from the special lunch day will go towards purchasing equipment and activities for lunchtime engaged play.
International Women’s Day will be recognised on Saturday, 8 March. This day is a time to celebrate the achievements of women around the world, and this year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” encourages us to continue striving for gender equality. Throughout the week, some classes have been exploring International Women’s Day in their lessons, discussing women who inspire them and how we can all contribute to a more inclusive and equal future.
Next week, students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 will begin sitting their NAPLAN assessments. These tests provide valuable insights into student learning and help schools identify areas for improvement. While we encourage students to try their best, we also remind them that NAPLAN is just one measure of their learning and does not define their abilities or future success. If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
In Week 8, we will celebrate Harmony Week, a time to embrace inclusivity, respect, and belonging for all cultures. Throughout the week, students will participate in classroom activities, games, and cultural experiences during break times. To close out the celebrations, we will be holding Community Picnics on Friday, 21st March. Students are encouraged to bring a plate of food from their cultural heritage to share. More details can be found in the flyer below.
On Wednesday, 12th March at 6:30 PM at the ARC, we invite all parents and community members to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for our School Council. This is a valuable opportunity to support our school and have a say in key decisions that impact our students, staff, and wider school community. Following the AGM, we will hold the first School Council Meeting for 2025. We currently have vacant positions for Chairperson, Secretary, and Parent Members, and we encourage anyone interested to consider nominating. Strong parent and community involvement in the School Council helps guide important initiatives and strengthens the partnership between school and families. Your participation is highly valued, and we appreciate your support in shaping the future of our school.

Connected Beginnings Classroom Support
Connected Beginnings supports indigenous children and families in the early years (0-8) to improve access to early childhood, maternal and child health and family support services so children are safe, healthy, and have the best possible start to their education journey.
Connected Beginnings is happy to report we now have additional support in the early years’ classes. We welcome Tanya White to the Pre-School room and Lyshana Lalara to the Year 2/3 classes, while Dawn has returned to support Transition/Yr 1.
Tanya brings knowledge from her previous role in Darwin with Child Australia as Mums and Bubs and Family Support Worker. Lyshana has experience in early years and family support services having worked for 54Reasons, the Groote Eylandt Milyakburra Strong Women’s Program, and Bushfit.
All ladies are enjoying getting to know those students they don’t already know, supporting all students, and share that they are ‘loving it 100%’!
